Rainforest, beach and boat rides — packing right makes all the difference. The complete checklist from our front desk.
Guests ask us this every week, so here is the definitive packing list for a comfortable stay in the rainforest.
The essentials
- •Light rain jacket or poncho — short tropical showers can arrive any month
- •Quick-dry clothing — cotton stays damp; synthetics and linen work best
- •Comfortable walking shoes plus sandals or flip-flops
- •Swimwear — for the beach and the pool
- •Insect repellent — the jungle is alive; repellent keeps it friendly
- •Sunscreen and a hat — the Caribbean sun is strong even on cloudy days
- •Small backpack for tours
- •Headlamp or small flashlight for evening walks (we provide them on night tours)
Good to know
- •Cash: there is one ATM in the village and it sometimes runs empty. Bring some colones; cards work at the hotel.
- •Power: standard 110 V US-style outlets. All our rooms have air-conditioning and hot water.
- •Laundry: available in the village — useful on longer trips.
What NOT to bring
Drones require special permits inside the national park, and there is no need for formal clothing anywhere on the island. Tortuguero is barefoot luxury.
