Legendary tarpon and snook fishing in the canals, lagoons, and the famous Colorado River — guided by local experts.
Tortuguero has long been considered one of the best places in the world to catch Atlantic tarpon on light tackle. The network of brackish canals, lagoons, and the powerful Colorado River mouth create a unique fishery where giant tarpon (often 80–150+ lbs) and strong snook patrol the same waters as jack, snapper, and roosterfish. Whether you are an experienced angler or trying saltwater fly or conventional tackle for the first time, our local captains know exactly where the fish are holding on any given tide.
We offer half-day and full-day trips using comfortable, quiet pangas with experienced guides. All gear, bait, and tackle are provided. Catch-and-release is encouraged for tarpon; guests who wish to keep table fish (snook, snapper) may do so within local regulations. Many of our fishing guests stay in one of our Stay & Tour packages that bundle lodging, meals, and guided fishing days at a special rate.
Our signature tarpon and snook trips plus complementary adventures. All fishing can be arranged at the front desk or in advance.
Tortuguero is world-renowned for its tarpon fishing. The canals and lagoons hold massive Atlantic tarpon, snook, and snapper. Our fishing tours use local boats with experienced guides who know every productive spot.
Tarpon are present year-round in Tortuguero, with peak action often March–May and September–November. Snook fishing is excellent during the “snook run” periods and around full moons. Our captains will advise the best days based on tides and recent reports.
Fishing licenses and park permits are handled by our team.
